Walk with us.
Before we introduce ourselves, here's a little background to how it all started. Pencil emerged from the collision of two lives that began over 3,000 miles apart from each other.
It's September 2012 and Pencil's co-founders, Pauline and Matt, are having their first date, at The Lemon Tree pub in Covent Garden. Within a couple of hours of meeting, we are exchanging the intricacies of our life stories. Although we didn't know it at the time, four years later these stories would give birth to the idea of Pencil.
It would be easy to presume that it was various attributes, skills or achievements in our lives that gave rise to Pencil. Instead, it was the respective loss, pain and suffering contained within our life stories that provided the inspiration. It is through the lens of this suffering that life came into sharp focus. Using these life experiences as motivation, we were determined to create a programme capable of making a tangible difference to people's lives.
Two years of studying, planning and crafting followed. Through the planning process, we identified three vital pillars upon which a wholehearted life is built. They are purpose, wellbeing and community, which form the content of the three chapters of our programme.
Sharing the detail of our life stories is an important part of our programme, so if you attend our retreat, you'll learn about our personal journeys. Until then, here is a little background about the two co-founders of Pencil.
Pauline is a Canadian-Slovenian who has spent her career developing VIP hospitality programmes for major sporting events around the world, including 11 Olympic Games. Highly skilled in creating exceptional guest experiences, Pauline uses all of her knowledge to provide Pencil's guests with world class hospitality.
During Pauline's career, she has provided shimmering hospitality to members of the Royal family, celebrities and VIPs. As well as for many Olympic Games, she's delivered programmes for the Rugby World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Premier League, the PanAm Games and the Aegon Tennis Championships, so if you join us on the Pencil programme, you can be sure that you'll be in good hands during your time with us.
Born in the North West of England, Matt delivers the content for the Pencil programme. After graduating from The University of Sheffield, Matt spent 15 years in London, working in advertising for large corporations and central government. Then, scratching an entrepreneurial itch that had pestered him for many years, he founded, grew and sold an online retail business.
It was at this point when he began to awaken to the fact that he should be on a different path. Up until this point, Matt was yet to harness his personal life experience that we alluded to earlier, into his professional life. Purpose is the focus of chapter one of our programme and in 2016, Matt knew that he had to realise his. During our programme, we go into detail about Matt's personal experience and how you can use yours as a springboard to a new purpose in life.
Their lives having started 3,000 miles apart from each other, Pauline and Matt married in 2016. The collision of our two lives and the transformational life stories contained within them, gave birth to a unique programme of content for Pencil. If you have lived enough life to know that there must be another way, a way of living on purpose, in wellness and in community, then our retreat may be just the thing for you.
